Medical Center Hospital opened the Joint Care
Center on the hospital’s sixth floor in August
2014. This comprehensive program is designed
specifically for patients wishing to have elective
hip or knee replacement surgery. The goal of
the program is to help patients get back to their
normal, active lifestyle as quickly as possible.
To do this, the Joint Care Center at Medical
Center Hospital is focused on collaboration,
education and support. In fact, education starts
well before surgery with a pre-op education
class where patients can learn what to expect
before, during and after surgery.
“We don’t want our patients to feel
alone in the journey. Everything
is built around group activities to
encourage the patient. We want the
first step that our patients take after
surgery to get them one step closer to
going home.”
- Jim Granbery,
Joint Care Center Coordinator
The program includes a support team made
up of therapists, doctors, nurses, the patients’
family and other patients. Family members are
encouraged to be “Coaches” during the recovery
process to encourage the patients in exercising
after returning home. Volunteers serve as
“Coaches” to those patients who may not have
family or friends available to coach them.
Group support has helped dozens of
patients over the last year recover and get
back to their normal routine more quickly.
At the MCH Joint Care Center we
heal better together.
