Imagine waking from your surgery to have the
kind eyes and comforting voice of an experienced
nurse letting you know that you came through
your procedure just fine. Minnie Kikuchi, RN,
thrives in her position in the Post-Anesthesia
Care Unit (PACU) Recovery Room because she
enjoys “seeing the relief of patients when they
wake up after surgery.” Minnie’s supervisor, Don
Owens, Divisional Director of Surgical Services,
said, “Minnie is the driving force for our patients in
recovery from surgeries. She is observant, intuitive,
very knowledgeable, highly skilled, and consistently
on top of her game. We are truly blessed to have
her caring for our post-op patients.”
Minnie is well-respected by coworkers as well.
Kim Kwiatkowski, Surgical Quality & Education,
is impressed with Minnie’s ability to offer
compassionate care no matter the situation. Minnie
has been with MCH since 1973 and has certainly
made a habit of offering quality nursing care for
over 40 years.
“Patients may not remember me, but as
long as they have someone reassuring
them and someone watching and taking
care of them, I know I have done a
good job.”
- Minnie Kikuchi, RN
It is said that being a nurse is a calling, not just
a profession. Florence Nightingale even referred to
nursing as “an art”. For Minnie, her nursing career
has been a rewarding journey where she has
found her place to exhibit excellence every day.
And many MCHS employees, physicians and, of
course, patients have benefited from Minnie’s
amazing career.
“It seems like a dream for almost 42 years to have
gone by since I started working at Medical Center
Hospital. I have seenmany changes in the expansion
of services and growth of the hospital. We have
grown to serve the community in many facets from
providing cancer treatment, veteran services and a
Trauma II hospital. I have enjoyed
my employment because
it has grown with me
from unit clerk, CNA
and charge nurse. It
has provided me with
vast opportunities to
expand my education
through mentors in a
nurse friendly hospital.”
